Competency-Based Framework for Researchers
“Best- Practice Examples from Suez Canal University, Egypt”

The competencies have been grouped into five domains. They are:

  • Practical skills
  • Problem-solving, and critical thinking
  • Personal attitudes and professional ethics
  • Dissemination
  • Grant writing

The rationale for the selection of these topics is based on the logical process of the scientific method, namely the identification of a problem; the formation of a hypothesis; deductive reasoning, data collection and analysis; the derivation of a conclusion and the dissemination of the research including the skills required to write a research paper.

These competencies are based on:

  • Competencies can be acquired through multiple means.
  • Knowledge alone is unlikely to allow an individual to achieve competency
  • A single curriculum is unnecessary. Program to help the researchers achieve competencies should be tailored to the specific needs.
  • The competency framework should be monitored and updated
